RTRS stands for the Round Table on Responsible Soy. Its primary objective in the soy industry is to promote the production and trade of soybeans and soy products in a manner that is environmentally sustainable, socially equitable, and economically viable. RTRS aims to address various sustainability challenges associated with soy cultivation, including deforestation, biodiversity loss, social conflicts, and the use of agrochemicals.
RTRS certification plays a important role in fostering sustainable soy production by implementing stringent standards and best practices across the entire soy supply chain. By prohibiting the conversion of high conservation value (HCV) and high carbon stock (HCS) areas for soy cultivation, RTRS certification effectively mitigates deforestation and habitat destruction. Additionally, it promotes responsible land-use practices, encourages sustainable inputs, and integrates social standards to ensure the welfare of workers and respect for local communities’ rights. Transparency and traceability are also emphasized, with requirements for transparent supply chain management and traceability systems to track the origin of soy products and guarantee compliance with sustainability standards.
